Data protection

According to the General Data Protection Regulation of the EU, individuals must be informed if their personal data is recorded in a personal register. Personal data includes information such as name and address. In addition, the data subject must be informed, for example, of the purpose of processing their personal data, of the purpose for which their data is regularly disclosed, and of their rights.

The careful and legal processing of your personal data is of primary importance for the Local Register Offices. We process your personal data in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation of the EU, Finnish legislation, and good data management and processing practices.

Local Register Offices maintain several public registers. Our registers containing key personal data include registers such as the Register of Guardianship Affairs, the Population Information System (jointly with the Population Register Centre) and the Register of Marital Contract Affairs.

The main purpose of our registers is to provide data to the authorities and other organisations requiring information. The processing of personal data is based on our official tasks determined in legislation.
